Some Charming Children's books!

A friend of mine asked what my favorite Children's books are and I kept spouting them out and then thought- hey! I could write a blog post on that! So here you are, my Top Ten Favorite Children's Books.

The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf is a classic. It teaches everyone to remember who they really are and not to be intimidated by what they are "supposed" to be. My mother read this one to my brother and I a lot when we were little.

Bear Snores on by Karma Wilson, illustrated by Jane Chapman is a precious book. Lot of fun characters and a very sweet ending. This coupling has written several spin off books and they are all very sweet.

I LOVE Jamie Lee Curtis Children's books, this one just happens to be my favorite. Laura Cornell's pictures are so clever and you can spend quote a bit of time looking at the fun little surprises she puts in each one. The messages are always endearing and encouraging.

Where the Wild Things by Maurice Sendak is of course a classic. My favorite line, because I have it memorized is, "I'll eat you up, I love you so" when Max is trying to leave the island. I used this books with my ADHD kids to demonstrate that sometimes its better to use our imaginations to calm down after a fight.

Doreen Cronin is hilarious. This is a very clever book that every kid should read. We also like "The Spider Diaries". The ending in this book is classic and if you can't get enough of the characters, there are a handful of spin-off. Duck for President is pretty funny.

I don't have the Pop-up version, but we are big Eric Carle fans. This is my favorite- especially the day that the Caterpillar eats though all the carnival food.

I went to a Monster party one time of a little friend of ours and they read this book. It is just so preciously terrific! I have all girls, but we own this book and my girls just LOVE reading it.

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn is a great first day of school book. The mother raccoon kisses the baby's hand and he can feel her closeness by the kiss she left when they are apart. Very sweet.

My kids LOVE the Marley books. Several very funny parts- including Baby Louie talking baby talk. Darling pictures by Richard Cowdry.

David Shannon has written several books and many in this series. These are great for beginning readers and the illustrations are colorful and unique. A very fun read.

A Change is in the air

To anyone who might still be following this "only occasional" blog- I just thought I would update you a bit. I have been busy, but you would expect anything less? Naturally, I am busy- aren't we all? But frankly, I just haven't cared about blogging. I find that my stamps are a little dusty these days, and I'm OK with that. I am still doing projects and keeping my creative side alive, but I've decided to make a change in the blog- because if I keep it like it is, then it will continue to grow dust as well.

So I plan to make it a blog to share my favorite things- recipes, books, decorating, kids stuff, or whatever I feel like! I also hope to share, occasionally some of the fun activities I've done with my kiddos for singing time on Sundays. It's basically going to be able all the things I'm thinking about at the moment, and you are welcome to join me- or say your adieu, I want this to be my happy place on the world wide web.

So here's to new beginnings and change...and a few of my favorite things!

The Winter Retreat classes are UP! What's Retreat? EVERYONE should come to Retreat, its just SO much fun. Two days of scrapping and crafting and making friends. The dates are Friday, November 11th (10am)-Saturday, November 12th (6pm) in a small town outside of Waco (its absolutely beautiful there). The cost for everything is $95 (meals, dorm-style lodging, your own scrapping table, and sooooo much FUN). Let me just add when I say FOOD, I mean REAL food...homemade and delicious (thank you Chef Melanie Price!) If you can't swing both days, you can do one day for $40 (food, table, fun).

I was asked by my friend yesterday about my favorite projects/layouts/cards that I've made over the many years I've been doing this. I decided since this is the week of my "Favorites" party, that I would take a moment to reflect upon some of my favorite projects over the years and spread them over the week. So here's my plan of a full week of favorites:

And today... I'll focus on my favorite RETREAT projects since retreat is officially 4 weeks away!

Nugget boxes- quick easy & adorable!

This was probably the most challenging class I ever taught...and I tried to just let people figure it out, but it was complicated and loads of my friends got frustrated, as did I! But I still love the project!

This was one of my all-time favorites, I love how easy it was YET- how elegant it came out.

I loved teaching this class, it was lots of quick & easy little projects, SO fun!

Simple & easy Christmas card, this one too me a while to create, I wanted it to have a nice balance.

I love this card because it is ridiculously easy.

This is a fun & quirky one I came up with, I like that it is a little less traditional.

I can't seem to locate all of my retreat projects, but here are a few! I love spending time with my closest friends and my sisters at Retreat, there is nothing like it! I decided to insert some pictures from our 2009 Retreat, it was one of our best!

The Hills are ALIVE!

A few months ago I came across an idea on pinterest.com (don't act surprised) for a party. This party is all about "My Favorite Things". Cue music!

I got the idea from here: A Bushel and a Peck.

So I made some invitations with MDS.

These were a little tricky because I really wanted the words to "My Favorite Things" on it, but I'm big on clean lines and such. I like how it turned out. However, I'm pretty sure none of my party decor is going to be grey or blue...and that's a little annoying to me, but I'll get over it- and NO ONE else cares! :)

Now I'm working on all the fun little touches to make it especially fun! I'm excited to see how it all turns out. Here is the basic idea:
Each person brings their favorite thing (anything you like.. your favorite lip gloss, favorite kitchen tool, favorite gift wrapping supply, a gift card for your favorite frozen yogurt, etc.). It can't cost more than $6, and each person brings five of the same thing. When you arrive at the party, you write your name on five slips of paper and throw them in a big bowl. The bowl is passed around, and each person takes five names (making sure you don't pick your own.. or two of the same name).

One at a time each person introduces their favorite thing and then reads the five names they picked from the bowl, passing out their gift to those five guests. After everyone at the party has presented their favorite thing, each person should end up with five gifts to take home.

Sorry it's been a little over a week since you've seen anything new, but I'm a busy girl- what can I say? Hey friends!

Soooo I couple of days ago I lost my iPhone, which is a lot like loosing a limb. My husband and I struggled to know what to do- get a new one or a used one, get a "regular" cell phone, wait it out, breed carrier pigeons...We hadn't decided what the best choice was but we were waiting as we explored our options. Last night I got a call from Kroger- at 10pm- that they had my phone! Hallelujah! We knew I had lost it there because of the tracking device on it, but we couldn't figure out EXACTLY where- so we thought the worst. Well when my knight-in-shining-armor of a husband rescued my phone, the finder was gone- so we don't know the story of where or how or anything, but we grateful! Thank you honest person!

Anyhow, my camera batteries were dead and my phone was gone- so I had no way to take pictures- and what fun is a post without pictures?

See? I just made this post MILES more entertaining! That's a tic-tac container by the way. So the point of this jumble is- I do have my phone. I do have somethings to show you. So- hang in there!

It's the little things...

We have made a few friends here in Houston and one of them had us over for dessert on Sunday night. As a thank-you, my girls and I dropped off this little paint can of cinnamon sugar popcorn. Lots of popcorn on here lately. Go figure. Anyhow, it was super easy to make- and the idea wasn't completely my own.

If you guessed I got the idea off of www.pinterest.com, you are right!

Cooking With My Kid is where I got the original idea and they even have their own little print-out you can use if you want to, but I had to subscribe to something to get it, and I thought I would just whip up a little something instead.

Of course I used MDS! Here is what I came up with:

Yep, if you wanted to make a copy of my work, its yours- just right click and save. But don't go mass producing it and say you came up with it, OK? 'Cuz I just do this to be nice, and that wouldn't be nice of you. Capeesh? :)

And then I adhered it to a small clear paint can- so you could see the kernels. I just put the cinnamon-sugar mix in a little baggie and tucked it in the center.

And I had to add something to the top, and this flower was just starring at me...so I listened to the flower.

Here's my cutie patootie holding it, ready to deliver. If you click on it, and look real close you can see some of the kernels that I forgot to photograph before handing it off. I put a watermark on her too because technically...I made her too, at least half of her. :)

I'm a paper-crafter. It's what I do for fun. Occasionally I make some money doing it. Most of the time, I just earn smiles. Yesterday I was unpacking a random box when I discovered my box of boxes. Yes, you read that right. My box of boxes. When you are a paper crafter like me, you see "trash" differently. You see a box that's small or unusual or unique in some way and you say to yourself, "I could cover that." So when I unpacked my box of saved boxes, I smiled.

My box of boxes. I know you're jealous.

No, I have no plans for them at the moment...but someday...someday in the future I'll need a perfect box, and I'll have it...in my box of boxes.

Amen.

Perhaps I'll dig up from proof of the coolness of my plan in my photo box...to be continued.

I'm an extreme gift-giver

Some people are extreme in other ways, but not me- or my family for that matter. So when Labor Day came around last week, I saw an opportunity to give a gift and I took it. My little girls started school several weeks ago and I wanted to do something small but nice for their teachers to say- hey, thanks for educating my little people, hope you enjoy your day off. I'm a nice girl, what can I say? Anyhow- I had seen a post on pinterest.com (I told you I was obsessed) and I thought, I'm going to do that. When I got over to the blog with the picture I saw that it was a free download- so I didn't have to stretch too much to make it work for what I had in mind. Score!

Yummy goodness & FREE Menu Planner!

So like I have said, I'm in love with Pinterest.com- and on Wednesday I sat down and worked on a menu for my family for the next 2 weeks. I like to go grocery shopping every 2 weeks. It's my goal, but inevitably I have to go AT LEAST one more time...can I get an Amen?

Anyhow, I found several things I wanted to try and last night we tried this:

I'm of course excited to try out new desserts- but can't have that every night or you'd have to roll me out of bed every morning...literally.

The PAINS of redoing a blog

Since I am now able to put more time into my blog, I want it to look nice. Not easy. I'm particular. I like things to look a certain way- capeesh? So this new look is...well...a work in progress. And let's be super clear about something- I'm NOT thrilled about the picture of me being on the blog header, but I'm working on it, and maybe brilliance will strike me as to WHAT else I can put there that will fit. {Deep breath.}

A non-stampy post: Wreath time!

I've been feeling very crafty lately, and I just had to share with you one of my latest projects that I actually did in the new house. I've been all over www.pinterest.com looking at all of the fabulous ideas out there. There are a ton of beautiful wreaths out there- so I kinda had an idea in my head and I headed to the craft store. I picked out what I thought would work and voila- a very colorful monogram wreath. I love it. :)

It was super easy to create, and I was able to get most everything at a discount so the cost was under $20- and for a wreath, that is REALLY good! My husband always says when I'm tired of scrapbooking, there may be a career for me in floral arrangement. Nahhh...but this sure was fun!

Hello all of you lovely people out there!

It's been a while since I have been a regular blogger, but I feel those days are about to return now that school has started and my new home is almost completely unpacked- can I get a hooray for that? And a while I'm at it, a BIG Helllllllllllo to Spring, Texas!

I've been storing a ton of pictures of things I've been creating over the time that I've been absent, so I hope you enjoy the deluge of posts you'll be getting over the following days and weeks. Its nice to be back at it again, friends. I hope you can get inspired by some of the things I do on this site, because I am inspired by many of you.

Now then...on to the good stuff!

Several months ago- I attended a bridal shower. This bride was one of my youth when I was a youth leader several years ago. I love, love, love her! And I was excited to surprise her at her shower. OF COURSE, I had to make something special for her, so here it is!

I got the frame from Stampin' Up, along with the paper. I used ModPodge to get the paper to adhere to the frame and then used it in an effort to protect the paper by putting a layer of ModPodge over the top once I was finished.

This picture is to show you the bling- can you see those pretty rhinestones? Its especially bling-y around the square picture part.

I love my Big Shot Die Cutter, and used it to create the letting. I also used it for the heart.

It turned out classy didn't it? My sweet friend loved it, and that was the point! What are you making today?

Sorry my stamping friends for neglecting you! In the last 90 days we have: put big money down to build a house, lost a job (the very next day), found a new job, preparing to move, trying to sell the house we have half-built, and maintained some sanity.

I have not been un-crafty through the whole process and I promise to post like a mad woman once we get resettled, I have a TON to share with you! I'll also be reorganizing the blog just a bit.

Once again, I reorganized my office & stamping space!

As many of you know, I have been doing another blog- see side bar for a link- in my spare time. I have posted loads of good stuff on there. Well, my junior authorship on the other blog will be ending on July 15th.

I am disappointed BUT really, I am grateful for the opportunity. I was in a rut and couldn't get moving again. Taking on this job has somewhat forced me to be creative again- and in the process get some new products. Bonus/bonus!

So I'm writing you to know that as of July 16th, you'll have me back. All of me, and I'm ready to return Stamp With Linz to its former glories...or at least TRY!

Howdy Stampin' Friends!
I have been asked to do a scrapbook for a 50th birthday party. Themed scrapbooks are fun and can be easier to organize since the theme is condensed to a solitary event like a birthday party, or even a wedding. I wanted to show you the page I am working on. I have just begun the accessorizing- and so I wanted to do a before & after. I have exactly what I'm going to do in my head- but I want to know- what would you do? I made some very simple thank you cards for my sister-in-law to use. You can't tell (probably) but the blue (Marina Mist- which, by the way I LOVE) is textured. Pictured is actually the stack of them, the bow is holding them all together. I really like this Plane and Simple Set, its a keeper. I also LOVE Crumble Cake and Marina Mist together...they are a keeper too!

And you were having a baby boy...and your nursery theme was vintage planes and trains...and you were having a baby shower...and I volunteered to make invitations...and favors...and a cake topper...and some little toothpick toppers...This is what you would get!

This is the invitation design although I could Crumble Cake for the card instead of Soft Suede, but I sent the invitations already- this was one I had left-over...so this is what you get to see. This is using the Plane and Simple stamp set from the Occassions Mini.

These are the little favors. Thanks to my handy dandy Big Shot, I was able to make everything from scratch, even the box! OK, I didn't MAKE the candy, but technically since my husband works for Mars, I think it counts. I decided to make them 1-dimensional so they would travel easier...amd because I can.

See cute, huh?

I'll add the cake topper (once I finish it) and the toothpick toppers later. :) It was fun doing boy stuff- simple lines, creamy colors, and a vintage stamp set- who can beat that?

OK you have waited very patiently and I have been slow to respond, but here you are! Finally- pictures from the party. Enjoy!

Some of the little treat "bags"- I found these cups at the store, added the crown, filled a cell-o bag and VOILA! So fun.

I also covered the water-bottles with paper and Tinkerbell stickers- a little hard to photograph, but very cute!

Some of our decorations- I found these on http://www.amazon.com/ they were awesome. You can see the banner sitting on the couch there, I hung that up next...yet have no picture of them.

We had a little "red carpet" for our guests...which was several red plastic table cloths I got 1/2 off the day after Valentines Day. We added some sparkly confetti and garland of course. Like our model here? She loves those boots.

Ready for the guests to arrive. See the dragon? Fun touch.

This was part of the games we did outside- dizzy the dragon (on the trampoline). See- we had some great costumes arrive!

Hiya people! My warm and humid Texas is rather chilly these days, so its a great time to get crackin on birthday party preparations! You know me, I'm thinking about it anyways- Today's post is a bit different because I was talking to a friend of mine who is doing a Princess party for her little girl who is a little younger than my oldest two. Anyhow, she is just learning how to the the MDS Program and needed some help. And just like the lame teacher I am, I just said- send me the stuff and I'll do it and then teach ya how later. :) So I did and this is what I came up with:

Cute isn't it? And isn't she darling? I used MDS and some other graphics that I had. The "Princess", wand, and crown came from B&M Creative Designs, a store on Etsy.com and the castle came from anot JW Illustrations. Both have Etsy.com sites. The silver font was found on ShabbyChicPrincess as a free download.

My oldest little cutie is going to be turning 6 in February and per family tradition she gets to have a friend party this year. (Insert heavy sigh here.) Don't get me wrong, I love a party, and I love to plan a party. The only catch is that I become OBSESSED with the party planning and can think of little else. I mean, really, what would happen to the world if I can't find the right party favors, right? World peace would end instantly. *chuckle, chuckle.*

So many MANY moons ago Stampin' Up put some of their party sets on sale and I KNEW that one day one of my 3 little girls would do a princess-y kind of birthday party, so I bought a few. Here they are:

And I am a genius basically for thinking to do this. No, really, I am- but I am also a tad CRAZY because I can't just punch the already cutely designed stuff out and call it good can I? Oh no...I must have some much more time consuming than that. So I came up with these. I know, I am ridiculous, but this is only the beginning, friends...there are many, MANY more things I will obsess over until the party is over. BUT the good thing is- I'll show them to you all here. Dusting off the keyboard

Hi there. Its been toooo long. So I'm updating. My goal is to rekindle my love for blogging this year, and so far I'm not doing so hot- but hey, give me time. Here is what's been going on in my life:

1. I have a reputation.

So for those of you who know me- ignore this one, but for those of you who don't read on. I have a reputation. For better or for worse my reputation is what it is and I can't do much about it...except maybe change personalities- and then what fun would I be? I digress...anyhow when I walked into my Kindergarten Round up last year my Stampin' Up friend, Kris, was there waiting for me with open arms...and a volunteer sheet. So I got put in charge of the first-ever Winter Carnival for my little kindergartner's school. I'm clueless pretty much on how to do it all, but I figure it out and it all goes well. We sell over 250 tickets, everyone has a good time, money given to Cookies for Kids. Win. Win. Win. BUT- that cursed reputation...what will they make me do next? Oh my. Did I mention it was a costume party? Costume pictures to come...

2. Hello, Australia.

I know I have a handful of Aussie followers, so I'd love to hear from you. My sister decided a few months back that she would quit her job with Texas A&M and finish her degree in Australia...OK there was *much* more thought put into it than I made it sound like, but anyhow, she is in Australia now and I miss her. She will be there 3 years. I plan on taking my family there at the end of the 3 years to see her earn her Ph.D.

3. Hippy chick.

I've had some hip problems. No, I am not old. I am a mere 32, healthy, vibrant, busy woman and *bang* hip problems. It has made it difficult to walk on some days and I think it might be related to the blasted cold winter we've had in Texas. Just imagine how I would survive in cold climate? Could I survive? Let's not find out. Anyhow- sitting, walking, laying down, and sometimes standing have caused me a bit of pain, soooo I haven't felt like crafting or blogging much.

But I'm here now and I've got somethings for ya- beginning with those cards I made a while back. I gave you a sneak peak, now here's the whole sha-bang. They are a bit princess-y, which is on my mind, but that is another post.

Can you see the texture? This is a hybrid card, which means a little digital and a little hand-on...very fun. Love my Digital Studio.

Look! I stamped my envelope too...some say envelopes are naked if they are not decorated...I say I'll stamp it if I remember...

This is a little tricky to see, but there is an opaque crown in the center. Can you see it?

Hey! I'm allowed! It is MY blog. ;)

And anyways- 2 days in a row, are you shocked?

I love to cook and I'm pretty good at it, I think. My brother and sister-in-law asked me the other day where I got all of my recipes so I thought I would pass on some of my "wisdom" in this forum. Maybe it will help some of you struggling cooks out there or those just wanting to try something new.

My favorite recipe book of all time is my Better Homes and Garden's Cook Book.

The recipes I frequent most are their Roast Beef (I do mine in a crock pot), Home-made Chicken Noodle Soup & the Fresh Herb Vinegarette...but I have done a lot of them.

My next favorite cook book is 101 More Things to Do in a Crock Pot, there is only 1 recipe in there that we just kinda liked, but the rest are great. Our favorite is the Black Bean Sour Cream Chicken, its awesome. We've also done, as of last night, the brownie sundae, and it was yummy too.

So basically when I come up with my month's worth of menus I start with these books. From there I have some other things I like to try. Probably my most frequented web-site is run by some friends of mine: Lugubrious Delights. Here they put recipes that have been tried and succeeded. I admit that some of the recipes are beyond me and I just haven't even given a second thought to trying, although I'm sure I could do it if I just REALLY wanted to. Some of my favorites on this site include: Easy Homemade Salsa, Crock Pot Pulled Pork, & Mean Green Tortilla Soup.

Of course there are always family recipes to pull from too, and my sister has posted several on the site above, just look for "Heather's" recipes. She has also posted a recipe of my inventing that is super easy and delicious: Monterrey Chicken here. Or you can check out her personal blog: here for some other winners.

I do have some other cook books that I look through, but those are my favs. I just got Ree Drummond's Pioneer Woman Cook book and I love it. Pioneer Woman has an awesome blog that is just so funny where the pictures are awesome and the food is down-right yummy. I made the Buttermilk biscuits the other night and they were awesome.

Falling short, just my style

OK, so apparently I can't blog everyday...or maybe I was a little too ambitious. Because, let's be honest- I haven't blogged in a while and then to say I would blog EVERYDAY- I was just setting myself up for trouble! But- no whiners here, people, because I did blog and blogging is half the battle (that's the slogan, right?)

So to catch you up, here are some of my favorite holiday gifts that I made this year. Better late than never, and hey- its not like it won't be here next year for you to check out!

Homemade Hot Chocolate...in style

So I'm one of those people that looks at a container different from most. Since you are visiting this blog and reading this post, chances are- you are just like me. We are paper-crafters, afterall and we can make anything look better than it did before.

Anyhow, since my littlest girl has started eating baby food I have saved all o

f those containers. Well, I came with a clever idea for them- hot chocolate holders!

I put some mix in the container, added some marshmallows, and mint chocolate chips- and then did all the fancy stuff. Pretty darn cute if I say so myself. The baby food containers fit nicely into these little containers I got at a local dollar store.

In this picture I put the mixture into a little felt bag I found, added some Christmas Morning Pancake mix and put the hot chocolate mix in the back with a chocolate-covered spoon. Just a simple gift for some teachers at school. :)

Creative Homemade Gifting

So this year my oldest little bitty started kindergarten. She LOVES it. So we are excited for teacher gifts. I LOVE giving gifts, I'm just not as good at receiving them! Anyhow, her teacher is male. We LOVE him, however, it does present a bit of a challenge for this crafty Mom. I ordered a sign from my sister for him and I'm also making some Cookies in a Jar. Here is the design I came up with on my lovely MSD program to attach to the jar.

This is one of those pre-done card lay-outs that I tweaked a bit. I believe that since I haven't written "Love the Blackhursts" on this one you can save it and print a few for your own Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Jars. You're welcome. :)

Did I say everyday?

:) I'm a little behind. My baby girl got sick and instead of having free time, I had holding-my-sweet-baby time. I didn't mind a bit, but you might have. I plan to post-date everything and have it up...by today? Maybe?

So here's a little tidbit for today. My 2nd girl is going to a preschool at a local church and as a service project they offered a night of free babysitting for the families of the student. Awesome, right? So my friends and I dropped off our sweeties and hit the town with our husbands. It was fun fun fun. I have great friends. Anyhow- as a little thank you, my husband and I made these little candy bags.

This is what I call a hybrid project, one that incorporates digital media and actual paper crafting. I added the picture of the girls so if they didn't know us by our names, they would know us by those cute faces.

I would love to show you my totally awesome Christmas cards that I designed on MDS (My Digital studio) but the pictures are so large that it is causing some technical difficulties...so you'll have to be patient. Sorry. I know you can do it. :)

So how about I post last year's card? This was when I was brand-spanking new at MDS, but its not shabby...this year's is better though...but you'll just have to take my word for it...I really shouldn't rub it in like that!

I meant to post last night, but I did not feel well! All I had to eat that day was junk- a donut, slice of pizza, and snacks...and then my family took me out to Olive Garden, which was great, but then I was starving...which made me nauseaus...which made it hard to eat. What a vicious cycle! Anyhow, I was consumed in my own misery. Have a moment for me, OK? ;)

So I'll give you a bonus for today- deal? Deal!

Yesterday I had a great time at my Craft Show. I always try to figure out what will sell and what will stay, and OF COURSE I *always* dream that I'll sell out and have to pack up early. :) Of course that didn't happen, but I was happy with the results. Now I get to show you some of the fun things that sold and or bombed! Enjoy!

I sold 1 of these, which I thought was genious...but apparently only me and that one other person did.

Happy Hands Home-made Kool-Aide Playdough in Grinch Green & Sugar Plum Fair Pink

No fireworks needed, it's homemade Kool-Aide playdough...and now it is my little girls' gifts for friends that I'm almost finished on! If you haven't ever made Kool-Aide playdough, give it a try. It smells good enough to eat...but since you've made it you know that all that is in there is flour, salt, the kool-aide packet, and hot water...so you refrain. :)

Moving on...Have you ever heard of blind snowmen?

Me neither.

And I sold all but 1 of these...which was a given, they are adorable! ;) You'll notice in the first picture that my snowmen are blind. I couldn't find the right eyes for them and drawing them can be risky...so I waited until I found the right match...voila! Assembly was easy, if you are the crafty type and punches made the hats a cinch- the square punch and the slot punch, a little ribbon, and a cute sequin flower and you've got a hat fit for Frosty himself. If you attempt these cuties, make sure you have some super sticky tape, these guys won't hold for your average Mono-Adhesive.

Confession: I've lost my touch, but not my marbles

Hello friends. I'm sorry its been so long. The truth is, I haven't been doing much anything creative in a while...and I haven't wanted to! When I have tried, its not been up to par. And here's the 2nd part of my confession- I've gone digital. Almost everything I have done in the last 4+ months has been almost all digital or hybrid. I love My Digital Studio and since my hands are usually full or holding a baby, it works for the time and space I have at the moment.

However, that doesn't mean I can't share my digital projects with you- so I will do that. I'll start with last night and work my way backwards. We had a Family Home Evening last night where we introduced our new Summer Program- Don't Lose Your Marbles/Summer Sanity. Everyone- except my little bitty baby- got to design their own tag for their jar. We have them displayed in the kitchen for easy access. Everyone did a good job. My husband even got into it. :) Check it out!

I made 2 of these darling popcorn tubes, and I can't say how pleased I am with them! This Sweet Pea paper is the bomb diggity, and who can resist those coordinating felt embellishments? Not me! This was so fun & so easy to make. I just love those kind of projects. :) It's a workshop week, so more projects to come!

A Quickie

Hi friends!
I had someone ask me to make a bunch of thank you cards for them- so in all my busyness- I made 24 cards. Unfortunately my camera was acting up so I only got a few pictures, and all taken at night- so not the best, but you'll get the idea. :) I decorated the insides of them too, and this is the little basket I put them all in- it was nice to have no limitations other than it had to be a thank you card. I used what I had and whatever came into my mind. I made 6 different cards- another reason I'm bummed about my camera, but it appears to be working now, that's good. I'll have some super fun Valentines stuff for you next week too. The first is my favorite... I kept them fairly simple- the more complicated ones didn't get photographed- of course. My friend was really pleased with them, so no complaints here!

A baby announcement

I couldn't sleep last night (really this morning) and I am yawning a lot right now! Anyhow, at 4:15am I began a little project to help a friend who needs some cute birth announcements. I wanted to give My Digital Studio a try on this and this is what came out. Too cute- by the way, that's my little girl, I'm still waiting on pictures of my friend's newborn.

I entered a small contest last week and hadn't posted anything. Since I finished at night, the pictures aren't their normal quality, but you'll get the idea. I haven't done a contest in a while. After disqualifying myself from the Artisan, it burned me out. So it was nice to give it a good try again. :) Hope I win!
The objective was to use a stamp set from the Mini and a new punch.
But before I show you those, here is the inside of the card I did in the post below, and the last of the projects for my workshop last week. A mini Sour Cream packet- 4x4 paper, SO FUN.

I said I would post a sneak peak of project for my workshop tomorrow and it is 9:53pm and I am just now getting to it- thus my title, "better late than never!" Anyhow, here are 2 of the projects we'll be doing. I hope to post some other little fun things tomorrow (before the workshop).

This is a sweet little card- click to see the dry embossing/impressions. It was a fun card to make & I think my club will like it. I came up with the color combo when I was putting some paper away and noticed how nice these colors went together. This card could be used for a Valentine if needed- and I think the little ribbon tie is fun, hopefully they will too.

This is a HYBRID scrapbooking project. I hadn't shown any of the ladies my Digital Studio yet, because I was still working out the kinks- and now that I have a good idea of how it works, I'm excited to try some new things- like a hybrid scrapbooking page. I think this is too fun to ignore- what a great tool in my croppin' tool belt!

Little gift on a little budget

My little girls are growing up. Here they are on New Years Eve before we made cookies and counted down the New Year in our special we're-not-staying-up-till-midnight way. Its not the best picture of either of them, but it makes me smile. My sister made those aprons, aren't they darling?Anyhow, with the new year comes new Primary classes at church with new teachers, the whole sha-bang. Since Sydnee is now old enough to attend, this would be her first Sunday in Primary. So I thought it would be fun for the girls to take something sweet to their teachers. What we did wasn't my original idea, but I think its pretty cute- and doesn't that stamp set match perfectly? I purchased the shakers at a local Dollar store, filled them with sugar and Cinnamon to make Cinnamon Toast shakers. Just an inexpensive gift that didn't take too much time, but helped the girls get more comfortable with their teachers- by making & bringing them a gift!

Quick, easy, & little gifts

We are blessed with lots of friends and lots of people that help our children. So, I wanted to make a little something for those that teach, assist, or help organize all of my children's activities- particularly at church. So, with a little help from the girls- we came up with these cute ornaments and totes. I made these with my club, but they were without the "Be Merry" sentiment. Anyhow, if you need a quick gift- and have the right supplies in stock- then these were fun to make. The little totes were found at a local dollar store- and they fit just right- hooray for that! We added these little tags from My Digital Studio as well.

So I have had SU!'s My Digital Studio for a while and have had a hard time with it...until today. Apparently all I needed to do was express my frustration and the program would work better. There are all sorts of fabulous tutorials on the blog: Patty's Stamps.

Anyhow, I'm still learning, but I made some tags- yeah for me. :) Check it out!

Altered Tin & a Box Make-over

Well, the lameness continues...the problem is getting up enough energy to take the pictures. BUT lucky for you, these were on my camera, so here's a small post from Retreat.

This was part of the Basics class, which we do every retreat, where I showed how to cover a tin. This was a tin from the SU! Flower Fusion. Just added some paper and some foamy stickers I had (after it dried of course) and Voila- an instant keepsake.

This project is not mine, but I'll share it because I LOVE it. My sweet friend Mickie- who is also an SU! demonstrator- decorated this ordinary box for her Secret Sister at Retreat. Isn't that AMAZING!? I love it, so I thought you would too.

Oh my goodness has life flown by. I'm so sorry for all of you friends out there in Blogger land wondering where the heck Stamp With Linz went. Well, to answer your question- I've been here. Just busy. Our life is changing with a 3rd little girl on the way, and it has meant that I give up my office. My nice, spacious, wonderful office. Sigh. So this is my workspace now.I think it probably is an accurate representation of the time I've been able to spend blogging & stamping- little, and only when I could fit it in.

Retreat is (for me) TOMORROW. I am super duper excited. I am finishing up on my secret sister gifts today, and then packing it up, babe! I hope to be totally packed by 4pm today. I think it will be easy peasy- just as long as I can get that 3rd Secret Sister gift done soon. anyhow, I thought I would share some of the things we'll be doing at Retreat.Also, just so you know, I'm going to do something new. MAKE IT WORK MONDAY. It is my goal to post something AWESOME every Monday- starting next Monday with all of the fun Retreat pictures. So stay tuned, OK?

Christmas in October

I've been working a lot on getting my life ready. Ready for preschool teaching next week, ready for new demands on my husband in his church service, ready for the baby girl that will be coming sooner than later. :) So to keep myself cheery, or at least try, I've been listening to Christmas music. It's funny, I don't think I've ever listened to Christmas music before November, but there's a first for everything, right? Anyhow, I thought I would share some Christmas cards I made for Retreat. At church we had a service auction, where we auctioned things we made or things we could do. I auctioned this box and as another auction- my scrapbooking services. The box was the highest item of the night. Lots of goodies. I'm glad it was a hit, I worked hard on it! :) Last year at the auction I thought I would do some non-paper-crafting services, and they were bid on and sold- but no one took me up on them. This year, I thought- well, this is kind of my forte, so why not bring out my best stuff? Lesson learned. :)

Well hello, stranger!

OK, I know- it's been a while. BUT! The good news is that I have lots of cute projects to show you, so hold on to your horses folks- this is one crazy fun ride...OK, not really- but let's have some fun!

I'm going to start today with a post of one of the projects we're doing at our Halloween workshop tonight. It's my fav. My sweet down-line, Kathleen, showed me how to make these darling mini photo albums with clear envelopes- so presto change-o, here's my Halloween version. Ain't it cute?

I'm out of practice on these recipes, and don't feel like putting it all up- so if you have questions or are unsure how I did something, send me a note: stamp.with.linz@gmail.com You should know that everything is Stampin' Up materials as usual! Hint: Did you know you can color in a ribbon with your markers? ;) Give it a try!

Unmotivated

Hey friends-
I'm sorry for the silence lately. I have been so unmotivated to blog and/or actually create anything. And in all honesty, I've been pretty busy getting organized for the new school year- but I'm back...for today at least!

Yesterday my little girl was giving a little talk/speech in her church primary, so she put on one of her new outfits and I wanted to make a special bow for her. My girls are girlie girls, so this is one way that I can show them my love for them & they love it. Anyhow, I made 2 for her to choose from and then made 2 matching ones for my other little girlie. I followed on-line directions on these...and am no expert, but I think they turned out pretty well!

The little pink flower clippies had a little accident when my girls were goofing off and had to be re-glued, which was done by my darling husband and someone that found the glue. Needless to say, the gluing job is a little off- but hey- who's looking that close when they are in a cutie's hair, right?

Happy Fall Y'all!

Fall is my favorite season. I love the rich colors, the cooler weather (not THAT much cooler in Texas, but a tad), and I love all that Fall brings- a new school year, football, Halloween, Thanksgiving...followed by Winter which brings my birthday and Christmas. :)

I am busy finishing up all of the ribbon shares, so today I thought I'd share with you a few of my Fall favorites since today is Sept 1st. Some of the pictures are better than others, but you get the idea! OK, so there's more than a few...I get a little carried away.

Hello friends- if people are still out there checking my blog. :) I was sick last week, and it really knocked me out. On top of that, we are expecting another little addition to our family in March, so being pregnant and sick AND my husband was out of town...so there's my excuses. And in all honesty, I needed a break. Sometimes you just don't feel like making something, you know? Anyhow, I'm back and I have had some things to show you for a while, so my camera is ready and I'll get to it tomorrow.

2nd Ribbon Share!

I had a request for a ribbon share with the new 1 1/4 Striped Ribbon (black pictured here). I would need at least 4 people and I believe I have 2 already (we can do multiple groups). If you are interested, it will be $11, you would get 2.5 yards in Pumpkin pie, Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, & Basic Black. Also, it looks like those in the dolka dot ribbon share will be getting a .50 refund, I over charged you a bit. :)

The order goes in on Friday morning, so if you want to do either of the ribbon shares, or put in an order- let me know before then!

Stamp Camp Lay-outs

Stamp Camp Tuesday, August 18th, 6pm-9pm, here!

It will be $15 for 3 lay-outs, a door prize, and munchies. If you are not able to join us but want the lay-outs, I will sell them (without stamping) for a lowered price.

Lay-out #1: This one can be changed in a blink of an eye to suit the needs of a boy- so if you want to join us, but need a less girlie look, let me know and we'll be adding some fun blues.
Lay-out #2: An elegant and simple lay-out. I have no big title on here, but you certainly could add one (and I might later!)
Lay-out #3: The ribbons and stars can be adapted to your pictures, so please let me know your color scheme so I can get the right colors for you. The set colors are the Real Red and the new In-Color Yellow...whose name escapes me. :) Note all of the fun little stitches.

For whatever reason, this is the only picture I can find of this lay-out. This is the first one I did, and it came very easily, which was SO NICE. Perhaps if you click on it, you can see the details- like the Crystal Effects in dots on the clouds and the ribbon flower, or the shaded grass... It was really lovely in person. *Sigh*

This aches me to see this, it took me forever. It's a family activity board.
